Abstract: The hydrolysis and photolysis of the lampricide Bayer 73 (aminoethanol salt of 2',5-dichloro-4'-nitrosalicylanilide) was studied by using C14-Bayer 2353 (the non-salt form of Bayer 73). No hydrolysis of the C14-Bayer 2353 occurred in pond water or in distilled water buffered at pH 5.0, 6.9, or 8.7 after 56 days. During exposure to long-wave UV light, C14-Bayer 2353 degraded rapidly on silica gel thin layer chromatographic plates on glass slides. After exposures to 24 and 168 hours, less than 50 and 5%, respectively, of the remaining radioactivity was parent compound. After exposure of an aqueous solution of C15-Bayer 2353 to long-wave UV light for 14 days, only 5% of the remaining radioactivity was parent compound. |
