transparent Summary, Etc. Note: Abstract: Because of environmental conditions and the high temperature, organic and bacterial content of waters and strong sunlight of the tropics, fishing nets and associated gear deteriorate more rapidly. A literature review uncovered only one paper dealing specifically with gear-preservation methods used by Filipino fishermen. The Philippine Fishery Program of the Fish and Wildlife Service cared out some experiments for gear preservation that are presented with the hope that the results will be helpful to Filipino fishermen as well as to the fishing industry in general.
