Abstract: Just a century ago some 625,000 acres of salt, brackish, and freshwater marshes bordered the Atlantic coast from Maine to Virginia. As early as 1885, however, work was begun to reclaim for agriculture considerable acreages of the fresher tidal lands. This research was conducted to study the effects of marshland drainage on plants, wildlife and wildlife habitat. |
