transparent Summary, Etc. Note: Abstract: The pilchard fishery of the west coast of North America was a minor one until stimulated by the war-born food demand of 1914-1918. Annual landings increased to 600,000 tons by the 1934-35 season and fluctuated about this level until the 1944-45 season. The year 1942 marks approximately the end of this period of growth of the fishery.
