Description: |
The first recorded Common Grackle depredation of a Great Lakes Piping Plover nest. Coincidentally, this occurred on the first Piping Plover nest ever recorded in Lower Green Bay, outside the Cat Island Restoration Chain. This image was captured by a trail camera set by Wildlife Services to monitor plover nests for predation risks. Prior to this event, grackles were not a documented threat to plover nests in the Great Lakes Region. This knowledge can be used by wildlife managers to better inform predator management decisions and protect the endangered Piping Plover. |
