Description: |
Since 2017, the Georgia Wildlife Services program has been partnering with stakeholders to bring awareness of the state's feral swine problem. The Georgia Association of Conservation Districts (GACD) hosts feral swine workshops as an avenue to provide this information to the public across the state. Each partner is tasked with providing general information according to their area of expertise. Professors from University of Georgia (UGA) discuss the historical abundance of feral swine and general feral swine biology. Wildlife biologists from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GA DNR) provide information on laws and regulations concerning feral swine and transportation. Veterinarians from the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) discuss feral swine diseases, prevention and associated impacts to human health and the livestock industry. The USDA WS Feral Swine biologist provides information on effective control techniques. Each workshop concludes with WS providing field demonstrations covering two capture devices that are commonly used for operational control. |
