Description: |
WS answers technical assistance calls for the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. Among many calls, WS responds to calls where foreign objects have become stuck on white-tailed deer. In this case, one of the rings of a tomato cage had become wrapped around the deer's body and started to cut into the body cavity. Anna Scesny darts the deer to chemically immobilize it, cut the wire off and administer antibiotics (seen in photo), and make sure the deer comes out of the tranquilizers safely on site. The deer is tagged with an ear tag and darted using a radio telemetry dart. Radio Telemetry is used to track the deer to the location where it goes down. |
