Description: |
On Monday April 26 2021 a team of NC WS field personnel, along with a Fort Bragg biologist and NWRC research scientist, began setting cable restraints at 20 locations throughout the study area. After 4 nights a total of 53 unique beavers were captured with 3 beavers captured twice. Fifty beavers were fitted with VHF transmitters on their tails and released where they were captured. Over the course of the next 18-24 months three WS employees will track these beavers nightly. In addition, 10 remote telemetry data loggers were deployed in strategic locations to also gather location information. This data will be geo-referenced, analyzed and displayed via GIS. The movement layers will help generate spatial distribution maps that can then be referenced to land cover, land use, presence of fire breaks and other sensitive species on Fort Bragg. |
