Description: |
This second-year Bald Eagle (Halieaeetus leucocephalus) was attracted to our research flight pen facility because of a gull study in our flight pens attracting wild gulls to the area. This bird was cuing that because gulls were present, food might be available. It landed on this hazardous pole as an observation post above the flight pen structure at the NWRC. This pole electrocuted a raccoon a few years ago, starting a grass fire, and still remains a hazard to wildlife. The land owner and power authorities were notified to help modify the pole to make it raptor safe. 2018 WS Photo Contest Entry |
