Spotted turtles are a state-listed threatened species in Ohio due to factors including habitat loss, population isolation, and predation. With support of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, Ohio WS works on protecting spotted turtle nests and hatchlings by trapping meso-predators such as raccoons around nesting season. This female was equipped with a transmitter to help researchers study her movements and nest location. 2018 WS Photo Contest Entry. |
