Description: |
NWRC researchers are working to avoid the loss of livestock and other captive animals caused by CWD infection. An example of this occurred in 2019, when the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forest requested assistance from Wildlife Services in depopulating a CWD-positive captive elk herd. Due to the severity of CWD, Oklahoma law requires depopulation of the entire herd and cessation of all captive cervid husbandry on any site where CWD is confirmed.
