transparent Description: Great egrets shed the virulent strain of Aeromonas hydrophila(VAH) after consuming infected fish. VAH is a bacterium that can cause infections in fish, people, reptiles, and birds. The shedding of VAH by the great egret and other bird species could explain how VAH is transmitted from one commercial catfish pond to another without any obvious connections between the ponds or farms.
